Prepare the way of the lord.

Luke 1:68-79 (NIV)
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people.
He has raised up a horn* of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us— to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace."

Christmas is coming!
The advent season is the time when we should Prepare the Way of the Lord. This implies that we clean our hearts so Christ can come into our lives again – each year on Christmas Day, the day when He was born.
But something has happened in the past 2000 years of Christian living. We celebrate a birthday with a party, that we prepare for with: plenty of food, fine expensive wines, make all kinds of cakes and desserts, buy a lot of gifts and invite folks and friends. But some time (maybe always) we forget to invite the Birthday Boy, Jesus.
Prepare the Way of the Lord is more than decorating our homes with thousands of brilliant and colorful lights. Prepare the Way of the Lord is more than shopping for hundred of gifts to show the people how much we love them. Prepare the Way of the Lord is more than lighting a candle in a wreath every Sunday. And Prepare the Way of the Lord is more than saying Merry Christmas, instead of Happy Holidays.
Prepare the Way of the Lord might be to rethink and examine our Christian living… but this does not necessarily mean you have to go to church every Sunday, or read the Bible everyday, or pray after you wake up, or shop in that luxury Christian store for expensive in-fashion t-shirts that read; “Yes, I’m Christian, …so?” or give money to support to “I don’t know who” in “I don’t know where”.
Prepare the Way of the Lord means clean up our heart and each and every path to it. This will allow for Jesus’ triumphal entry into our lives.
Prepare the Way of the Lord with forgiveness (real forgiveness). I believe the secret to do this is in the root of the words forgiven and forget. I think is the same! – because only you can truly forgive when you truly forget it.
Prepare the Way of the Lord leads to loving each and every one, even the ones we don’t like, or the ones who betray us, or who seem to disappoint us.
Prepare the Way of the Lord with stronger faith. Helps us to stand up, no matter the circumstances and no matter who has (or we think has) attacked us. To resist and endure when we receive a hit or two or three, but this demonstrates that we are stronger than every thing and every one in this life. Proving that God is with us and we are heroes in front of any adversity.
Prepare the Way of the Lord with happy Hope. Hope that even in our darkest night, God still is with us and soon (like the sun) that comes up, and hug us, and warms us with His light and His heat, Jesus will do the same with our hearts and souls too.
Hope that we can be all that God wants us to be – to be as big as we can dream… be blessed and a blessing to those around us… bringing us as close to God as imaginable.
Prepare the Way of the Lord with Peace. Stop fighting. Stop the fight against you. When you think that everyone in the world is against you, and you spend all your time fighting… you are wasting your life and your time and living in a personal inferno.
This is a war inside you. But if you invest just 10% of this same energy, you can fight your way into pace. Your personal world will change from a hell, to a paradise. Make the place where you are into heaven, for you and all those around you.
“If God is with you, who could possibly be against you?”
And finally, Prepare the Way of the Lord with JOY – the joy of living and enjoying yourself… enjoying who you are. After all, you are a creation of God. God seriously made you, but God did not make you all that serious.
You are God’s original and priceless creation. You are God’s temple and God is in you. Discover God inside of you and in all others… discover God’s great creativeness.
And then, come to the church and share your God and share yourself with others, especially with those who have not yet discovered the Joy of God. This Joy is found inside themselves and inside of others, and this is the greatest of all joys.
Prepare the Way of the Lord is living in Christian action – not for God, but to God’s people – not once in a while, but each end every day – every where, and no matter who they are.
This is the most important thing we can do for God and this is what God wants and expect from us – this is better than a simple prayer before the Christmas meal.
When you have cleaned up these paths (when you Prepared the Way of the Lord) to your heart with these actions, Jesus (the Birthday Boy) will be with you and you will receive and give countless blessings… not only during the Christmas season or in the Christmas day, but forever, and ever, and ever, Amen!
