Reflection on Mark 9:17-27
“What do you mean with ‘If I can’?
Everything is possible if you believe."
Jesus [Mark 9:23]Why is it that sometimes things don’t happen the way you want? Why is it that some people seem to be always doing all right and for you always bad? How come others always seem to have abundantly, while you always seem to be the poorest person among the poor? Why are others so popular and they have a lot of friends and you don’t? Why is it that you are looking for the ‘right person’ but always wind up with the ‘wrong one’?
The answer to all these questions is inside of you. You are what is in your mind. Believe it or not, every one of your thoughts is a constant prayer, a silent prayer, a simple prayer to God. And all your prayers are always calling and attracting to your life all those things you are asking for.
This is really something very simple: The way you think determines the way you act in life. And the way you act in life determines the way everything in the world will react towards you, even God.
Yet thoughts are invisible, what people think about themselves ends up being visible for others. If you think you are inferior, you will always act in that particular way in front of others.
There are some people who waste a lot of mental and emotional energy trying to ‘pretend’ in front of the entire world, but the truth is: no matter how much you try no mask will help you conceal your true negative thought pattern. Your mood will never be commendable at all and your pathetic status will just provoke pity.
People will be able to see through that disguise and will say: “This person believes is a calamity”, and so others will automatically refuse or avoid it.
A very low degree of self-esteem will never help you produce a healthy [nor productive] relationship with anybody at anytime. It is fundamental to optimize continuously your self-esteem and raise the value you give yourself as a person.
A person who believes they are important to the entire universe, will be. People around this person will see that clearly and they will be attracted toward them.
A well-developed self-esteem results from a healthy self-image. In order to achieve a healthy self-image it is necessary to have self-acceptance and a spirit of feeling good about themselves, because of all you are and all you are not.
This internal emotion or sense of feeling good, provides us with a Joyful Attitude and this helps us to be a Positive Thinker. And there is where you find the ‘magic’.
When we feel good, when we feel happy or when we experience joy in the simplest things of our lives, all our negative thoughts and bad attitudes disappear. And because our thoughts work like simple, silent, constant prayers to God, and when our thoughts are healthy, we will have only good things come into our lives.
Why is it that sometimes things don’t happen the way you want? Because, that is what it is in your mind. You truly believe things never will be the way you want. “I’ll never get that job.” “I’ll never get that person to notice me.” “I’ll never be able to buy a car.”
But this does not have to be that way. Re-think your thoughts. Visualize yourself happily receiving what you want. Think frequently about the things the way you want it. Make daily affirmations, giving thanks because all the good things are happening in your life and for your own well-being.
May your favorite song be Noa’s “(Life is) Beautiful That Way” and not Beck’s “Looser”.
Why are some people always doing all right and you are always doing so badly? Because, that is what it is in your mind. If you only think about how ‘even worse’ things could be after the previous ones when they didn’t go the way you wanted them to, then the results will be even more disastrous than before.
Your negative thoughts always bring you negative things. If you always think about your bad luck, you will attract only more bad luck to your life. However, this same law works for positive thoughts as well. Your positive thoughts will always bring about positive results.
I bet you, invest just 10% of your mental energy thinking about how better things could go, when they don’t go the way you want, and you’ll see how magically and miraculously you will be doing well in life always. If you want to be ‘a lucky one’ visualize yourself with all that good luck that you desire.
May your favorite Japanese anime series is “They’re Here! Powerpuff Girls Z (Demashita! Pawapafu Gāruzu Zetto)” and not “Remy, the Homeless Boy (Rittai anime ie naki ko Remi)”.
Why do others always seem to have an abundance and you look like the poorest person among the poor? Because, that is what it is in your mind. The ‘poor persons’ frequently put themselves down in their thoughts of poverty, while the ‘rich people’ frequently think about the richness that surrounds them and all the richness they can produce.
Your thoughts of abundance bring unlimited abundance to you. Think about all those riches that belong to you for the divine decree. But here is my disclaimer: I want to make it perfectly clear that when I’m talking about richness I am not talking about money. There are people who have a lot of money, tons of money, but they are the unhappiest people in the world. To me this is poverty also. So, think about your economical richness, but also think in your abundance of joy, think in your career and professional abundance, think in your loving and emotional abundance, think in that abundance product of becoming a better person day by day.
May your favorite international film be Danny Boyle’s “Millions (2004)” and not Marcelo Piñeyro’s “Burnt Money (2000)”.
Why are others very popular and they have a lot of friends and you don’t? Because, that is what it is in your mind. The ones ‘who think they are rejected’ only think they are not worthy of being accepted by the others.
The thought process regulates everything and each of the actions of people. These actions transmit the degree of esteem that those people have of themselves and people around them will treat them in the same way as they perceive themselves. If you appreciate yourself, people will appreciate you. If you want yourself, the people will want you.
If you accept yourself just as you are, people will accept just as you are. If you stop focusing on the fact that there are people better than you or worse than you and you focus on all the blessings you have because you are you, someone unique, one of a kind and human being, all your relationships will be astoundingly better and better, for the very reason that people will be honored to be at your side.
May your favorite book be John Irving’s “A Prayer for Owen Meany” and not Patrick Süskind’s “Perfume”.
Why is it, that if you are looking for the ‘right person’ you always get the ‘wrong one’? Because, that is what it is in your mind. If you are only thinking on the ‘wrong people’, the ones you don’t want in your life, that is exactly what you will attract. If you are living afraid that someone could break your heart, your heart will be broken. If when you are in a relationship, instead of enjoying it you are only concerned about how long this could last, I’ll bet you that your relationship will not last long.
Concentrate on attracting to your romantic life, not only the good-looking people, the popular people, the rich people, but that people who actually love you just the way you are… the people who accept you just the way you are… the people who understand you just the way you are… and even the people who ‘tolerate’ you just the way you are.
Use your thoughts to attract the love you want, into your life, visualize that special person not only loving you faithfully, but aging happily with you. And when you begin a relationship do not worry about how long this relationship will last, better enjoy what you have while you have it as if this will be the last day you may have that person next to you.
May your favorite soap opera, day time drama or English-speaking ‘Tele-novela’ be none. Turn off that TV and go out to reality to start to enjoy your life and live your life in full living color and high definition.
One of humanity’s biggest diseases is the “Excuse-itis”. People with this ailment always find the correct explanations about why they don’t have, why they don’t do, why they can’t and why they are not: “Because I’m too small,” “because I’m too large,” “because I am still a child,” “because right now I’m an adult,” “because I’m too tall,” “because I’m too short,” “because I’m very handsome,” “because I’m very ugly,” “because I’m too thin,” “because I’m too fat,” “because I’m gay,” “because I’m not gay,” “because I’m studying,” “because I’m not studying,” “because I’m white,” “because I’m black,” “because I come from Mars,” “because I come from Venus,” “because yes,” “because no,” “because ‘x’”, “because ‘z’”. Does this sound familiar to you?
There is no emotion in ‘almost’ doing something in life. The emotion comes from achieving, from realizing or getting what is desired. The difference between the achievement and the failure in any situation (job, house, money, love, friendship) rests on having had the correct attitude and the correct thoughts.
Henry Ford said: “If you think you can do something or you think you can’t do something, you’re right." When you believe that something is impossible, your mind is going to work to prove you why this is impossible. But when you believe [and I mean when you really believe] that something will and can come true, your mind is going to find the means to achieve all that you want and the best of all is: you are going to do so with true joy.
The negative or pessimistic thoughts tell us: “I will believe it when I see it”; While the positive or optimistic thoughts say: “I will see it when I believe it”. This way, if you wish to see something come true in your life, believe it without any pretext or justification in the middle.
Today is the day to break away your noxious mental patterns. It is time to change your way of thinking. Take the risk of thinking a different way and feel good about you and your life through the knowledge of yourself (without judgments), through the acceptance of who you are, what you are, how you are and what you do (with honesty), through the recognition of your own value (with humbleness, but without degrading yourself) and through the respect of yourself and others. You have nothing to loose, but a great opportunity to win.
You are what it is in your mind. If you firmly believe that all things that happen to you are positive (I’m not saying ‘good’) and with a purpose then the learning will be present and you will grow like a real person, still with the so-called ‘difficulties’ of life. Think different, think positively and you will receive only good things in your life.
In order for something extraordinary to happen outside, something extraordinary needs to happen inside first. To truly believe that everything is possible the work must be inside and out. I think you are what it is in your mind and your constant thoughts are simple silent constant prayers to God and I believe God is an awesome God who will always give you all that you are asking for, so the best you can do is offer everyday your best thoughts to the entire universe.
Mark 9:17-27 – New Living Translation (NLT)One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk. And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.”
Jesus said to them, “You faithless people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.
“How long has this been happening?” Jesus asked the boy’s father.
He replied, “Since he was a little boy. The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”
“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”
When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit. “Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,” he said. “I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!”
Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him. The boy appeared to be dead. A murmur ran through the crowd as people said, “He’s dead.”But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.
